Meet Gemini! Google's AI-powered chatbot gets a makeover – G-Talent.Net

Google has changed the name of its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot from Bard to Gemini , and announced that starting this Thursday this technology will be available in a new application Gemini for Android and through the Google app on iOS, and has also launched an "advanced" paid version.

Shortly after the popularity of Open AI's ChatGPT , Google launched its Bard chatbot in early 2023 and announced its Gemini multimodal model at the end of the year.

Google's Gemini and Assistant VP and GM Sissie Hsiao told a news conference that aside from the name and logo change, the chatbot—which is powered by the Gemini Pro language model (LLM) and available globally in 40 languages—is the same.

"Self-awareness is a tricky thing for models, so if you ask (Gemini) 'What's your name?' on Thursday, they might say, 'I'm Bard,'" Hsiao noted.

Google AI, an assistant in a free app

On Thursday, Google is also launching the Gemini mobile app for Android devices in the United States , as well as access to Gemini from the Google app on iOS, where users can write, talk and share images with the chatbot.

" It's a very important first step towards creating a true AI assistant ," Hsiao said, explaining that users can take a photo of a flat tire and Gemini will respond with a step-by-step tutorial on how to change it.

For Android phones, Gemini can also become the phone's primary assistant , with users being able to activate Gemini with the center button on their phone or by saying, "Hey Google" or "Ok Google."

Starting next week, Google will roll out app-based access to Gemini across the Asia-Pacific region in English, Japanese and Korean, with more countries and languages including Spanish coming soon.

Gemini Advanced, the paid version of Gemini

Another Google launch today in 150 countries is Gemini Advanced, where the chatbot has access to the LLM Ultra 1.0 and, in turn, is able to respond - for now only in English - to more complex tasks, such as programming, logical reasoning or creative collaboration.

" Gemini Advanced not only allows you to write longer prompts , but you can also better understand the context of your previous prompts," Hsiao explains.

The subscription to access Gemini Advanced will cost $19.99 per month and also gives access to the Google One premium package and its 2 terabytes of storage on Google

" We're excited for people to start trying out Gemini Advanced . So we have a two-month, free trial available on Thursday," said Shimrit Ben-Yair, vice president of Google Photos and Google One.

Additionally, the company announced that it is working to "soon" make it possible for Google One AI Premium users to use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet.

With these announcements, Google is trying to show that it is still in the fight to become the benchmark company in terms of chatbots, a battle in which other heavyweights such as OpenAI and Microsoft are also participating, which also offers a subscription to use AI in its Microsoft 365 applications.
