Scrum is considered a software development platform that uses agile principles for product management. This methodology is designed with the idea of providing customer satisfaction with each service or product. In Scrum, projects are managed in short iterations to allow flexibility for companies and developers.
While training as a Scrum Developer is essential to get started, knowing and following certain best practices when using the tool can facilitate faster product development. Here are 5 effective best practices for the development team.
Scrum practices every developer should know
1. Use versatile tools like Scrum Developer
When it comes to quality collaboration software, Excel sheets are not enough. Instead, use versatile tools that are specifically designed for Scrum. For example, using JIRA for project management, Toggl for time tracking, or Slack for better team collaboration. This is part of the Top 5 Scrum Practices
2. Organizing stand-ups as a Scrum Developer
Once you have the sprint start and end dates, and a commitment from the sprint team for delivery, begin your sprint. When working in Scrum, always complete your tasks in sprint to ensure they are shippable. During this period, schedule a daily call with your team to address any issues that may arise and stay on track with the task schedule.
This can also help determine if there are any impediments during product development. The two basic questions you should ask yourself during every stand-up meeting are:
- What did you accomplish today? And,
- What will you do tomorrow?
3. Review meetings - Your participation as a Developer is important
While meetings are held on a regular basis when your project is still in progress, a review meeting is held after the project is completed. The meeting will focus on the user stories that met customer satisfaction, while incomplete user stories will remain as product backlogs.
4. Experiment with processes
Scrum is one of the most flexible frameworks available today and is designed with user flexibility in mind. Therefore, a practice that is best for one company may not be as good for another.
Ask your team to experiment with the process and try new things. If you've been using two-week sprints until now, ask your team to run a one- or three-week sprint and see the results.
